Tear Duct Syringing Treatment

Introducing The Tearstim for IPL Treatment

The TearStim from Essilor offers a new, long-lasting solution to help manage eye comfort. Environmental factors, along with computer use, working from home and les outdoor time can contribute towards dry, uncomfortable, red eyes.

Over than 20% of the worlds population suffer from dry uncomfortable eyes. Traditional remedies offer short term relief but here at The Bright Eyes Clinic based at Lynne Fernandes Optometrists we have taken treatment a step further. With a quick and easy process, the treatment can last up to 3 years, ensuring the glands that produce the healthy lubricating oil in the tears function properly. These are called meibomian glands.

Common causes of dry, uncomfortable, red eyes include:

  • Long periods of time at computers
  • Pollution
  • Age
  • Eye surgery e.g. cataract surgery
  • Diet
  • Dry indoor air e.g. heating
  • Hormonal changes
  • Medications
  • Contact lenses

TearStim is a device based on intense regulated pulsed light technology (IRPL). It emits painless light pulses below the eye, stimulating the release of neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters stimulate the secretion of the meibomian glands, restoring the quality of the gland secretion, along with stabilising the lipid layer of the tear film.

How does the TearStim work?

With the patient sitting comfortably in a chair, the optometrist simply covers the patients’ eyes with protector shells and applies a special gel.

A series of 8-10 light pulses are then aimed at the area below the eyes, before being repeated in the same way on the other eye.

The treatment needs only 3 sessions to make a difference:

  • Day 0
  • Day 15
  • Day 45

The effects of the dry eye treatment can last from 6 months up to 3 years. It’s recommended that you have an annual booster session, in the form of a single treatment.

Dry, red or watery eyes can soon be a thing of the past, even from the first application of the TearStim treatment.
